      以下課文注釋摘自《新概念英語》第二冊和第三冊，學(xué)員背記時請參照的原文加以理解，我們希望這些課文注釋對大家有所幫助。

（3）at large 是介詞短詞，此處表示“逍遙自在”，“行動自由”的意思。
（4）wake up with a start…由于受到驚動，驚醒了。冒號后面是一個解釋性的句子， 是對start所作具體說明。
（5）the goddess turned out to be… 那位女神原來是…
（6）all parts of  the country,全國各地
（7）People who work  in offices are frequently referred to as ‘while-collar workers’，那些坐在辦公室的人為“白領(lǐng)工人”。White-collar workers往往指腦力勞動者，體力勞動者則被稱為blue-collar  worker, 藍領(lǐng)工人。
